SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Zakiya Moss was a Nottingham High School senior in 2009 trying to prepare herself for college, so when a librarian at her school approached her about joining a scholarship pageant, she thought it would just be something fun to do. Until she heard she needed a talent. "I'm thinking to myself, 'I don't have a talent or anything, I'm not talented,'" Moss said. "Really badly I wanted to drop out, but I knew I couldn't quit."
